Review of Ko at Casby

Thanks to Mike at Lithium Magazine for the great review:

"The 2010 ceremony took place September 30th at Kool Haus in downtown Toronto, ironically across the street from the brand new home of Corus Entertainment, The Edge’s parent company.  Despite that several Edge on-air personalities were on hand to MC the event, including Fearless Fred, Dave “Bookie” Bookman, Josie Dye and Dean Blundell, the festivities kicked off without introduction and immediately launched into a 2-song set by Hot Hot Heat on the main stage.   Following directly afterward, Toronto native KO brought his brand of urban funk to the side stage.  His heartfelt and impressive delivery caused the audience to groove along to his hypnotic song “Capable” from his current album Let’s Blaze.  For my personal taste, his set ended all too soon considering he gave one of the best performances of the night."

"ONE TO WATCH -- KO"

Check this article in POP COUNTER//CULTURE! September 16, 2010

Anyone who is a true fan of musical artistry is always on the hunt for something new, something fresh, something inspiring. In all of these categories, KO delivers. Since the release of his 2009 debut album Let’s Blaze, he has given fans a unique blend of rock and hip hop, as it’s never been heard before.

KO’s beginnings were bumpy, but despite his struggles, his work has given him the ability to communicate a message of both strength and hope through meaningful lyrics and raw hip hop beats. Though he always had a love for great music, including artists such as Ani DiFranco and Van Morrison, KO was really inspired after spending some time in rehab. While he was there he wanted to draw from his experiences and from what was right in front of him. He wrote songs like Moving Mountains with a message of conquering demons and rising above them. His music has something for everyone in it, and that was his goal, to give fans something to relate to and connect with. If there is anyone to check out it’s KO. http://popcounterculture.ca/index.php/ko

Ko's website is being reconstructed.. keep tuned for a new look. This should be live by mid-August.

June 2008:

KO was writing songs for himself as well as American Artists, can't name them, but the songs are spectacular. KO is gaining an international reputation as a wordsmith.. he can surely write them.

January-May 2008:

KO has been performing in and around Toronto at various venues, honing his performance craft. He was interviewed by a buxom beauty from Naked News at the Marijuana March in Toronto, a cold and wet miserable day, this did not deter the interviewer from displaying all of her upfront talents.

December 2007:

Well deserved QUIET time.. as quiet as it can be for The KoMan.. Planning the tour to start in January 2008.. keep checking for news.

November 2007:

...what a crazee month. November 10th KO played the Horsehoe; Nov. 15-16th in NYC for a photo shoot (making the boy look good); Nov 21 at the Hideout where he NAILED IT!; Nov. 26-30 in NYC for a showcase for Atlantic, Nov.29th, squeezed in some time to write with Sabelle Breer and Curt Frasca and others.. the result, two songs, The Downside of Love and Smoker's Delight!

October 2007:

Hotter than ever.. Ko's wowing them in clubs and bars in southern ontario. October 11th he burned up the room at the Red Hot Chili Pepper Bar and Grill in St. Catherines. Then he rocked them at the Casbah in Steeltown (Hamilton)... and rattled the chains at the Dungeon in the Shawa (Oshawa)!!! Everybody says the same thing "where can i hear more/ get my hands on a CD?" and "yo i met you last night at the casbah ...let me know when you have somethin out". October 25th KO was once again at the El Mocambo, rocking the crowd. You've asked, "what guitars does KO play?" He plays an Epiphone courtesy of Gibson (thanks to Tina Simpkin) and the Canadian made Simon and Patrick. S and P was one of the first guitars he played in California while in rehab. (That one got stolen when KO did a runner).

CHECK OUT Atlantic Records website where you finally see KO's name on the artist list. Site's being developed. Keep checking it out as everyone gets ready for the launch of the CD in 2008. PEACE!

September 2007:

Great Review by T.K. Dallman in Interrobang, London, Ontario, September 17, 2007. "The first musician that took the stage was KO Kapches, an artist from Toronto who played guitar and sang to pre-recorded beats and melodies. The songs, of which he only performed a few due to time constrictions, were actually almost reminiscent of Everlast, albeit with heavier, more danceable beats. ....Ko Kapches lyrical content was also questionable at some points, especially when it literally sounded like every third word in his last song was 'represent'. Ultimately, ... the crowd seemed responsive to his music, and despite the fact that he might be better billed on a hip-hop concert, he provided an entertaining start to the night.

Orientation Week at Universities and Colleges in Ontario saw KO on the road, Windsor, London, Brock, Queen's, and so on. Also a showcase at the Drake in Toronto as part of the TIFF on Monday September 10th. KO wowed the elite late nite crowd of New Yorkers and all others! Also previewed a new song, fabulous. KO has been asked to perform at a small New York club.. I'll let you know details when I get them.

August 2007:

A sold-out show at Toronto's landmark Horseshoe Tavern on August 16th. The place was packed and hopping, best night they'd had all summer!

June 2007:

Saw KO performing on Friday June 8th as part of NXNE at the Supermarket, 268 Augusta, Toronto. He'll be at the Supermarket again on Wednesday June 13th, 20th and 27th. Catch the video clip from his Supermarket performance. MERCH is ready... more news to follow. For the story of the album check out Cherrybeachsound.com. You'll find pics of KO performing a showcase on May 11th for the industry at the Cherry Beach Sound studio, Toronto. Pictures of Andy Karp of Atlantic Records and Stevie Salas too.

May 2007:

Saw KO in the Studio finishing up the tracks for the album. All is well.

April 2007:

Tuesdays in Tdot.. what's up? KO KAPCHES at the SUPERMARKET and he's not shopping. April 10, April 17, April 24th at 9:00 pm. No cover. 268 Augusta. 416.840.0501. Catch him before he's on tour.

March 2007:

In this week's Billboard Ko's man is there! Check the Castle Hill record announcement from Ko's manager Tom Stevens. Ko's been in the studio working on his old songs, you know the ones from 2006. But he still has time for new songs, on March 8th he pulled an all-nighter, the result a fabulous song "Turn up the radio." Remember what a radio is? Ko's powerful poetry and tunes makes this song hot. Looks like he'll be doing showcases in Toronto in April to get ready for touring.

February 2007:

From LA off to Nashville to work with Kevin Kadish for a couple of days. Fantastic song "Don't Judge" talkin about hows everyones the same when the music's high and the lights are low.. you get the direction.

In the midst of the cold Toronto winter days and nights hibernation in the studio begins NOW! Keep posted, join Ko's mailing list for updates.

January 2007:

Ko’ll be in Toronto hunkering down in the studio to finish off the album. The release date is scheduled for March 2007. He’ll also be back in LA working with the musicians he hooked up with in December.

December 2006:

The website has been updated! Keep checking it as more information and photos will be added.

In early December KO was in LA writing with Michael Bradford, their chemistry is awesome and several great tunes have been crafted. Ko’s voice is stronger and more powerful than ever. The lyrics are dramatic, exactly what you’ve come to expect from Ko. He also spent time in Hollywood writing with other musicians including Stevie Salis. Can’t complain too much about KO being in the warm California sun, he’s working long hard days and nights to capture as much of that musical energy as possible.

November 2006:

What a wild month! “New on the Charts,” the website for the National Association of Record Industry Professionals announced that Atlantic Records had signed KO Kapches. Now how many people in the industry are scratching their heads over that one, who is this guy? Visits to Ko’s website have increased as people try to find out.

There were also three shows in November. First, on November 3rd KO showcased at McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario. It looks like tours of the University circuit are in the works. Two shows, November 20 and 21, were in Toronto and London, Ontario. KO opened for the fabulous Aussie musician Xavier Rudd. The crowds of nearly 2000 loved Ko. By Email the people spoke: “Saw you at Xavier Rudd, your set was Awesome!” “You played a dope set, can't wait to hear more!” “Must say you’re pretty wicked!”

September 2006:

KO officially signed with Atlantic Records in New York City. What a rush! As Atlantic has their own web site system Ko’s website became silent, no more music until the CD is released.

KO’s booking company is theagencygroup.com, check their site to see what tours are planned for Ko. Keep checking Ko’s site to find out about shows and news. A lot is happening right now and you don’t want to miss a thing.
